Steel dining table base buying guide
Quick answer: match the base shape to your top (round and square tops suit spider, star, cross and pear bases; oval and long tops need an oval base, the FRAME base or a trestle), choose a base wide enough for your top size, and pick a finish. Every GJSteelandWood dining table base is handmade from powder-coated steel in Riga, Latvia, 72 cm tall, and sold without a top.
1. Height
Our dining bases are 72 cm (about 28 in) tall, a standard dining height once a typical top is added. For a bar or counter table, see PILLAR HIGH (100 cm), or ask us for a custom height.
2. Base size
The bigger and heavier your top, the wider the base should be. Our dining bases range from about 50 cm to 106 cm across, and the first number in most model names tells you the spread (SPIDER 7 is about 70 cm). Not sure which size fits? Send us your tabletop size and we will recommend one.

Frequently asked questions
What height is a steel dining table base?
Our dining table bases are made 72 cm (about 28 in) tall. Add the thickness of your top to get the finished table height. PILLAR HIGH is 100 cm for bar tables, and other heights can be made to order.
What do the numbers in the model names mean?
The first number in most names is the base spread across: SPIDER 7 is about 70 cm, STAR 8 about 80 cm and PEAR 10 about 100 cm. Exact dimensions are on each product page.
Which base do I need for an oval or rectangular dining table?
Choose one of our oval and rectangular bases (BIG PEAR, BIG STAR 5/5 or CROSS BIG 1-7/3), the FRAME base in lengths from 100 to 200 cm, a TRESTLE base, or a pair of table legs from our desk and dining table legs collection.
Does the dining table base come with a tabletop?
No. We sell the steel base only, so you can pair it with the wood, glass, stone or marble top of your choice.
Can I use a glass or stone top?
Yes. Choose the "without holes" option for glass and stone tops, which are usually fixed with clear adhesive or silicone pads, or "with holes" to screw the base into a wooden top.
Can you make a dining table base in a custom size or colour?
Yes. Every base is made to order in our workshop in Riga, Latvia. We can adjust height and size and powder coat it in any RAL colour. Contact us with your tabletop size.
